Description:

Carnation event 123.2.38 was developed by Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation of conventional white-flowered variety 123 to express anthocyanins in the petals conferring a shade of violet colour to the flowers.
The transformation vector pCGP1470 contained the following expression cassettes:
- the petunia flavonoid 3'5' hydroxylase (F3'5'H) cassette,
- the petunia dihydroflavonol 4-reductase (dfr) cassette,
- the acetolactate synthase (SuRB a.k.a. als) cassette.
The F3'5'H and the dfr cassettes were needed to obtain the violet/mauve colouration. The SuRB cassette was used as a selectable marker to confer tolerance to sulfonylurea herbicide.
The molecular characterisation data indicated that 123.2.38 contains two inserts. The first insert contains the genes responsible for the intended traits and herbicide tolerance as well as some vector backbone sequences. The second insert does not express any functional protein.
The stability of the newly introduced trait was observed over multiple generations.
