Description:
|
The safflower Event 26 was produced by Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation of the high oleic acid breeding line M1582 with the vector pCW732. Vector pCW732 contains an RNAi gene silencing construct designed to suppress within the seed endogenous Δ12 desaturase (delta12D) and palmitoyl-ACP thioesterase (fatB), two key enzymes involved in the conversion of oleic acid to linoleic acid or palmitic acid.
As a result, the modified safflower produces seeds that accumulate a high proportion of oleic acid (approximately 92%) and very low linoleic acid (less than 2%). This high purity oleic acid is potentially valuable as an industrial raw material.
In addition, the hygromycin phosphotransferase B gene, hpt, under the control of a constitutive promoter sequence was introduced for in vitro selection.
Event 26 contains a single copy complete T-DNA insertion with no other partial T-DNA components in the genome.
