Description:
|
The rice cultivar Kitaake has been modified with TALEN in the promoters of two rice genes.
The targets are:
the promoter of the sugar transporter gene SWEET14 (or Os11N3) on rice chromosome 11 and,
the promoter of the sugar transporter gene, SWEET11 (or Os8N3) on chromosome 8.
The promoter changes (deletions of a few base pairs) have converted the two disease susceptibility genes into resistance genes. The rice plants show resistance to bacterial blight caused by the pathogen Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae.
Null-segregant lines with no T-DNA remaing in the genome have been created by self-pollination (Ting-1, Ting-2, Ting-3, Ting-4 and Ting-5).
