Southern blot, PCR and sequence analyses indicated integration of two copies of the functional bialaphos resistance gene cassette (P-35S-CaMV > CS-pat-STRVR > T-35S-CaMV) of transformation vector pB2/35SacK in a head-to-tail configuration at a single genomic locus. Between these two cassettes there are two non-functional fragments of a disrupted beta-lactamase gene (BSM-bla-ECOLX). The non-functional fragments are inserted in an inverted orientation to each other and do therefore not constitute a functional gene.
